Working and living in Singapore, 62 year old local artist Tung Yue Nang paints beautiful scenes of iconic places in Singapore with the ink medium on rice paper.
“Story” depicts a scene of Singapore Chinatown. With the application of various shades of the ink medium, Tung Yue Nang forged a serene and calming ambience of his Chinatown which contrasts with the bustling state commonly associated with the location. With this style of painting, Tung Yue Nang looks to provide situations where viewers are able to perceive Singapore’s Chinatown from different perspectives, atmospheres and circumstances.
Tung Yue Nang held a solo exhibition titled “Silence” at Cape of Good Hope Art Gallery in 2014. He was awarded the first prize in the ink painting category at the Annual Dr Tan Tze Chor Art Awards in 2002, 2014 and 2019.
