Singaporean artist Tung Yue Nang is famous for his detailed ink paintings of Chinatown in Singapore. The focus of this painting is the facade of the shophouses. Viewers would notice that these buildings look like they were from the old days and complemented by the inclusion of modern architecture in the background. This combination of the old and new suggests a peculiar understanding of time at Chinatown by Tung Yue Nang.
In 2014, an exhibition titled “Silence” which featured ink paintings by Tung Yue Nang was held at Cape of Good Hope Art Gallery. A catalogue which included the paintings that were on display was published in conjunction with the exhibition.
