Singaporean artist Tung Yue Nang sees beauty and significance in traditional cultural act such as the puppet performance depicted in the left of the composition. Its special place in time is accentuated by the dreamy ambience of the painting which is forged by the combination of light and dark ink tones surrounding the infrastructures. This painting is part of the series titled “Silence” where Tung Yue Nang depicts quiet scenes of Chinatown and the Singapore River in the early mornings. That collection of paintings provide viewers with opportunities to appreciate the beauties of buildings and architecture of Chinatown.
