In this painting, Liu Xuan Qi depicts a tricycle and “country erasers”, 2 common objects that young children used to play with within the good old days. Many viewers of this painting might have sat on one of these tricycles while learning how to cycle and felt the thrill of getting from one point to another at a quicker pace. The erasers remind us of the times we spent playing with our friends at school, exchanging and collecting erasers of various nations.
This series of paintings has become one of Liu Xuan Qi’s significant collections of artworks as they touch on past memories and evoke a viewer’s sense of nostalgia. Liu Xuan Qi won the platinum award at the UOB Painting of the year competition in 2012.
