Working and living in Singapore, Liu Xuan Qi paints familiar toys that were commonly seen and played by children in Singapore during the 1990s to 2000s. Paintings from this series were inspired by the intention of illustrating objects that formed the memory of people who grew up on this island. The textures that surround the main subject of the painting forged additional layers to the composition and creates an impression that this toy aeroplane is truly in flight. Overall, this painting brings about a joyful and lighthearted ambiance to the space that it is in.
